A country of fast trains and fine food in East Asia and a rich island country that attracts travelers with its magnificent nature - all this is Taiwan!
Taiwan or the Republic of China (do not confuse with the People's Republic of China) is an unrecognized country in East Asia. It is mostly located on the island of Taiwan and together with the smaller islands it forms the Republic of China. It is known for its mountains and beautiful coast, which consists of beaches, volcanic landscapes, sand dunes and swamps. Taiwan has nine national parks, including the famous Taipei National Park, Yangmingshan. The peaceful interior, bustling cities, temples, museums and rich cultural heritage make Taiwan a popular tourist destination.
Taiwanโs history is not only rich but also fascinating. The country was first a Dutch and then a Spanish colony, and after the rule of the Europeans it was ruled by the Japanese. At the end of World War II, it fell under Chinese rule, only to secede from China four years later. Today it is a partially recognized state, and it is practically independent.
Taiwan has a traditional Chinese culture, which has been greatly influenced by the Japanese and Americans. Fine arts, folk tradition, celebrations and festivities are a combination of traditional and modern. If you are interested in the cultural experience of the country and its traditions, June is one of the best months to visit, because many Chinese Gods celebrate their birthday. There are also folk art festivals, as well as the famous "Dragon Boat" festival.
The main cities of Taiwan, next to the capital, Taipei are: Kaohsiung in the south, a great place to shop, Taichung the third largest city in Taiwan, located in the central west coast, Tainan the oldest city in Taiwan and the site of several historical sites and temples, Taoyuan Production Center and Tamsui the oldest port in northern Taiwan.
There really is no best time to visit Taiwan, because this country is a good destination all year round. The warmest months are in summer, from June to August, but this is also the wettest period of the year. Autumn lasts from September to November. There is little rain during these months and the weather is very pleasant. The southern parts of Taiwan are warmer than the rest of the country and it is usually sunny every day. The typhoon season is from June to October.
Although Taiwan is an unusual destination that many do not even think about when they decide to travel to the unknown, for those who do decide, it will be a pleasant surprise.
