Nicaragua is also known for having the largest lake island in the world. It is the island of Ometepe, which is located in the middle of Lake Nicaragua. One of the attractions of Nicaragua are the numerous nature reserves, and the most famous is Bosavas. It is a tropical forest, located in northern Nicaragua, and partly enters neighboring Honduras. There are about 1,000 animal species in this reserve, as well as rare plants.
And finally, the story of Nicaragua would not be complete without the mention of its volcanoes. Namely, Nicaragua has several locations where volcanic activity is extremely high. There are dozens of volcanoes, some of which are active and some dormant. Visitors mostly visit the volcano on the island of Ometepe, which offers a beautiful view of the surroundings.
On the Pacific side, the Invierno or rainy season lasts from May to November, and is rainiest in September and October when sea turtles lay their eggs. The dry or dry season is from November to April and then is the best time for hiking, camping and parties. The dry season coincides with the high tourist season, which is from December to March.
